The former Congress president was disqualified as member of Lok Sabha on Friday. A day after, the Surat court convicted him for two years in a 2019 defamation case. Addressing a rally in Karnataka, he had said, “how all thieves have Modi surnames.”
He was granted a 30-day bail to allow him to appeal in a higher court. The Lok Sabha secretariat on Friday issued a notification on his disqualification under Article 102 of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act.
Galav criticised the move and called it “undemocratic”. He said, “From the day Rahul Gandhi raised questions about Adani, a conspiracy was initiated to silence him. They (the BJP) never allowed him to speak out, which is a clear case of an anti-democratic and dictatorial attitude by the BJP government. The BJP has committed a suicidal step.”
